Biography:
Tom McAlpin is the President and Chief Executive Officer of ResidenSea, Ltd., the management company responsible for operations, administration, sales and marketing for The World, the only residential community at sea, with 165 private luxury homes. The World circumnavigates the globe continuously to extraordinary destinations offering the best in travel and experience to its travelers without ever leaving home. Tom joined the Make-A-Wish Foundation ® National Board of Directors in April 2006 and currently chairs the Audit & Finance Committee. He became involved in the Make-A-Wish Foundation while he was at Disney Cruise Line® . The cruise line had granted wishes for the previous eight years, and he had seen first-hand the impact of the Foundation’s work. He wants to use his skills to broaden the awareness of Make-A-Wish® activities and continue the Foundation’s growth. A veteran in the cruise line industry with more than 23 years of domestic and international experience in ship management and operations, Tom spent 14 years at Disney Cruise Line; most recently as its president. He was responsible for the successful launch of Disney’s entry into the cruise industry and led the expansion efforts to add two new ships to the fleet. Prior to joining Disney, Tom was the director of corporate planning and analysis for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line / Admiral Cruises for eight years. He began his career with KPMG and also served as the chief financial officer of CSB Leasing Company for three years. He is a member of the Board of Governors for Florida State University’s College of Business. He has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality, and is a member of its Advisory Board. He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance from Florida State University and an MBA from the University of Miami. He and his wife live in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and his two daughters are students at Florida State University.
