Eleven-year-old Lily didn’t just declare her wish – she helped grant it.
Lily wished to have a playhouse. When she met architect Wayne Visbeen she arrived with colored pencils and a sketch pad in hand, ready to share her vision. With years of architecture and design experience, Wayne had wonderful ideas of his own for creating Lily’s luxury playhouse.
The two new friends pooled their creativity and got to work creating a spectacular playhouse with all the special touches Lily hoped for, plus the sturdy, luxurious design Wayne is accustomed to creating.
The result was a two-story playhouse, complete with a loft and electricity. The inside is warm, welcoming and full of fun – it even has a bright yellow slide for a playful exit. Lily’s new retreat provides a place for her to call her own – a place away from the doctors and treatments that have been a constant in her life since she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, in 2006.
When she looked inside her completed playhouse for the first time, Lily told her mom, “This is more than a playhouse – this is a house.”
She expressed her gratitude to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® for making her wish come true: “My wish experience was fabulous. My house is beautiful. I love having my own place to hang out.”
