Wish kid gets golf tips from his basketball hero

In the warmth of the Nevada desert, a Pennsylvania teen had his wish come true when he met his favorite basketball player. But rather than shoot hoops, he received pointers about putting, and he loved every minute of it.

Marc, 16, had a private meeting with Michael Jordan at Shadow Creek, the legendary golf course in Las Vegas and the site for this year’s Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational.

Jordan chatted with Marc and his family during a private meeting at Shadow Creek and signed autographs. He then gave the teen golfer some putting tips on the practice green – Marc sank his first putt from 12 feet to the delight of the assembled crowd.

Afterward, Marc’s mom said, “I am very proud of my son. After all of his sickness and everything that we have gone through, finally seeing his wish come true is what’s very nice for me.”

“It was an honor to grant Marc’s wish,” Jordan said. “I’ve seen over and over how the Foundation brings happiness and positively impacts a child’s life with an unforgettable wish experience. Through our charitable efforts, more children will see their wishes come true.”

Since 2009, the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational has raised more than $455,000 for the Foundation. This year’s tournament raised $100,000 for wish granting.

In addition to being a five-time recipient of the National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Award, Jordan is the Make-A-Wish Foundation® Chief Wish Ambassador. He is one of the Foundation’s most-requested celebrity wish granters, and supports numerous outreach efforts for significant programs such as World Wish Day® .
