PHOENIX (April 13, 2009) – Four young women with life-threatening medical conditions have their supermodel wishes realized in the May issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, on newsstands Tuesday.

In January, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® granted their wishes with the help of O, The Oprah Magazine and some of the fashion and beauty industries’ biggest talents. The girls’ mothers were also included in the day of dramatic makeovers and photo sessions with photographer Nigel Barker at Pier 59 Studios.

Joining Barker were celebrity stylist and Make-A-Wish® fashion ambassador Mary Alice Stephenson and prominent fashion and beauty experts Scott Barnes, Sally Hershberger, Jeanine Lobell and Oscar Blandi, all of whom donated their expertise. Supermodels Karolina Kurkova, Chanel Iman, Hilary Rhoda and Lisa Cant also stopped by to lend support.

The wish recipients and their mothers featured are:

  • Halie Hudgins, 17, and Cheryl Hudgins; Allison Park, Pa.
  • Nicole Taipale, 16, and Cathy Austin; Citrus Heights, Calif.
  • Marley Kornowa, 17, and Maureen Kornowa; Buford, Ga.
  • Destanee Clark, 20, and Denise Clark; Toledo, Ohio

“When one mother was photographed, she started crying, saying, ‘I have never looked this good in my life!’” Stephenson said. “Everyone in our incredible industry has the ability to share their talents to enhance other people’s lives.”

“The smiles and the total relief on both the mothers’ and daughters’ faces” was the best part of the photo shoots, Barker said. “If I can get them to forget what they’ve been through, then we’ve made it happen. We’ve granted a wish.”
