UnitedHealth Group Kicks Off Make-A-Wish Sponsorship

Company Funds Minnesota Child’s Italy Wish

Thanks to funding from UnitedHealth Group, Isaac and his family will visit the Ferrari factory and have an Italian adventure.

Isaac, 10, is a big fan of Ferraris. Many models have caught his eye, but he knows that if he ever had the chance to own one, it would be a red Enzo. So when the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Minnesota asked Isaac, who was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia (a condition that causes bone marrow to stop making enough blood cells and platelets) to make a wish, he decided he wanted to go to the place where his favorite cars come to life: the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy.

In addition to being sacred place for car fanatics, Italy is home to history and architecture, delicious food and some of Isaac’s relatives. Visiting this Mediterranean country and visiting family has long been one of Isaac’s dreams.

That dream is coming true with the help of wish-granters and funding from UnitedHealth Group, the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s newest corporate sponsor. The company announced its three-year, $4.5 million sponsorship of the Make-A-Wish Foundation during a party at the corporate headquarters, and Isaac was the guest of honor.

UnitedHealth Group employees helped Isaac gear up for his trip with an Italy guidebook, an Italian phrase book, a Ferrari backpack and a model car. They also presented him with a cake that had “Isaac’s Wish” written in icing along with an edible map of Italy and picture of a Ferrari.

At his sendoff party, Isaac received gifts galore and a cake with a frosting Ferrari.

"It's huge to Isaac," Isaac’s father, Kurtis, told the Star Tribune. "It's an opportunity of a lifetime that helps make up for some of the other things, at least at this point in his life, that have been taken away."

Isaac will enjoy his gifts and plan his trip while his family waits for their passports. His dream trip is scheduled for the fall.

"Thank you to all of you," he told the friends and supporters at UnitedHealth Group’s party. "This means a lot to me."

UnitedHealth Group’s alliance marks one of the largest in the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s history. The Foundation named the company a National Wish Champion. Each of the Foundation’s 69 chapters will be eligible to receive wish-granting funds through the new program allowing those local chapters to grant wishes in their communities.
