Sixteen-year-old Cherise shares a common thread with many teenagers in her affinity for clothes and malls. Those interests found their way into her request of wish granters with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Michigan. She asked the volunteers for a clothing shopping spree in California.
With sponsorship from UAW-GM and assistance from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles, Michigan wish granters created a packed itinerary for her trip out west. Before the wish day arrived though, Cherise and her family took time to help other wish kids by participating in a UAW-GM softball fund-raiser.
Cherise’s wish experience started when a limousine came to take her family, including mom Sharon, dad Art, and sister Chelsie, to Detroit Metro Airport, where they flew to Los Angeles. Additionally, the Make-A-Wish Foundation arranged for a rental car and a hotel just a few minutes from Santa Monica Pier and the 3rd Street Promenade. The Santa Monica Pier boasts dancing, souvenir shops, seafood restaurants, a historic carousel, and even an aquarium. The 3rd Street Promenade is a pedestrians-only street filled with restaurants, retail shops, movie theaters, nightclubs, and street performers.
Cherise’s first day in California was for “scoping out” the stores in her shopping spree. The next day, her wish came true as she had five hours to spend away at the 3rd Street Promenade and the Santa Monica Place Mall.
Clothing was definitely her top priority, as she made purchases at seven different clothing stores. She also bought a computer and monitor at an electronics store.
With her shopping spree done, Cherise and her family spent the next day at Universal Studios Hollywood, where they roamed among movie sets and movie-themed thrill rides. Dinner time found them at Hard Rock Café.
Deciding they still had not taken in enough of the Golden State, the family arranged to stay another four days after their Make-A-Wish® adventure ended.
