MK, who is 9-years-old and lives in Atlanta, is the youngest of three girls. Like many kids with brothers and sisters, she wants her own space and her own things.
When the wish fairies — which is what they call wish granters at the Greater Atlanta and North Georgia chapter — asked MK what she wanted, she said she wanted her own house, where she could sleep, play and entertain her friends.
A local company called REcreation offered to assist in granting MK's wish, and asked her to come up with the initial design for the house, in as much detail as possible. MK very skillfully drew a replica of what the house should look like. She used exact colors, including a green door with matching shutters and trim. She also drew the plants she hoped to put in her window box as well as the hanging pots she wanted to have positioned on the front porch.
Several local businesses, including Home Depot, assisted by providing some of the building material and plants and chapter volunteers helped with painting, stenciling, and planting flowers around the house.
MK and her family were very touched by the wish fairies and the wish experience. Her mom said that the wish was incredibly special for her little girl and helped to put the family's focus on something positive rather than on the upcoming surgery. MK was especially proud of the fact that she was able to participate in the design process—and that she is one of the few 9-year-olds with her own house.
