Over the years, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has granted many wish kids the dazzling experience of being a supermodel. From makeovers to wardrobes to modeling school, they’ve received a genuine taste of the high-fashion world.
And for some of the luckiest wish models, photographer Nigel Barker has been behind the lens. Nigel’s skill with a camera is only equaled by his upbeat personality that puts even more fun into being the focus of a photo shoot.
Barker, who is a judge for “America’s Next Top Model,” granted his first wish in 2004. Since then, taking part in wish experiences has become even more special to him with every wish kid he meets.
“You are at once humbled, overjoyed and blessed to spend a day with these young heroes,” Barker said.
Barker also puts a lot more into the wishes he helps fulfill than just releasing the shutter. According to Gaby Sappington, marketing and communications director for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York, he also arranges for makeup artists and wardrobe specialists to make wish kids look their best for the sessions. He ensures they are immersed in the glamour of the moment. Barker has also helped wish kids create portfolios if they’re interested in a modeling career.
But it’s truly Barker’s personality that brings the wishes to life, Sappington said.
“He goes out of his way to make sure it’s an incredible experience for the children. He helps everybody feel completely at ease.”
