Of all the famous princesses in all the land, none have anything on Princess Karlie, an enchanting 7-year-old whose fairytale wish came true once upon a time in a land called Muskegon.
Like so many little girls, Karlie dreamed of becoming a princess. With a tiara on her beautifully styled hair and wrapped up in a flowing white coat with a fur collar and cuffs to keep her warm, Karlie marveled at the white horse-drawn, rose-lined crystal coach that had arrived to whisk her off to her destination.
“Make-A-Wish Foundation®
welcomes Princess Karlie. Congratulations on your coronation,” read the local theater marquee. As Karlie arrived, she was hailed by 1,700 cheering family, friends, neighbors and other members of her community who came together on her magical day to help grant her wish. On the stage of the theater, Princess Karlie wowed the crowd when she revealed her gown. A pale pink and lavender, full-skirted satin gown with purple tulle and feathers was what the princess chose to greet her subjects, and they approved heartily.
Princess Karlie was serenaded by Miss Michigan, who sang the Princess’ favorite song – “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” She was then presented with the item that every princess simply cannot live without – a personalized hope chest. Knights in shining armor also staged a mock battle for Her Royal Highness, and graceful ballerinas performed in her honor.
Afterward, Karlie, her parents, sister and hundreds of her young guests enjoyed a special party featuring the princess’ favorite foods – chicken fingers, macaroni and cheese, and a tower of cupcakes that nearly touched the ceiling! Children’s games, dancing and a chocolate fountain added to the fun, ensuring a festive time for every member of the princess’ royal court.
Karlie’s mother, “Queen Jill,” was amazed at how the magic of a wish allowed her daughter to escape the battle with cystic fibrosis and become a royal princess. “It was an incredible day,” she said. “I can’t believe that all these people that we don’t know came out to make it so special for her.”
