“ I wish to ...meet Ronald McDonald.”Deven , age 4
Four-year-old Deven is a big fan of Ronald McDonald. Whenever his family would drive by a McDonald's restaurant, Deven would point to the eatery and exclaim, "That's where Ronald lives!"
You can imagine Deven's excitement when Ronald made an appearance at a local fair, but there was a problem. So many children and fans surrounded the fast food spokesperson that Deven never got to meet him or talk to him. Deven was disappointed and he couldn't forget it.
When volunteers from the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Western Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia met Deven, he had a request ready. Deven asked to share a Happy Meal with Ronald McDonald. Wish granters contacted members of the local McDonald's office and its advertising agency. They, in turn, relayed the wish to Ronald. According to sources, Ronald was humbled and excited to grant the wish.
When the big day arrived, Deven and his family rode in a black stretch limousine to the local McDonald's. On the way, Deven kept raising his arms in the air and shouting, "I'm gonna meet Ronald!" Once at the restaurant, Ronald himself greeted the family.
Deven, his new friend, and Deven's family went into the restaurant. Before introductions could be made, Deven and Ronald had a long conversion at a table. Afterwards, the young boy introduced his mom and dad.
Ronald had many presents for Deven and his family, including a Ronald bank, hand puppets of all the McDonald's characters, Ronald T-shirts, Ronald overalls, and more. Lunch time came and the new friends went to the counter to place their orders. Of course, Deven requested a Happy Meal. Ronald also ordered one for each of Deven's parents. The young fast food fan thoroughly enjoyed his lunch and the proof was in the ketchup all over his face.
More surprises were in store for Deven. Ronald brought the boy into the aisle to examine a mystery box. Inside were dozens of Happy Meal toys, compliments of the local McDonald's management team and crew. Later, Ronald also met many of Deven's preschool classmates.
In the end, a 4-year-old boy from Pennsylvania had a new friend, who could arguably be called the most popular fast food spokesperson in the world. The unlikely pair is an example of the magic wishes create.
