Eleven-year-old Tyler loves the Arizona Diamondbacks. During the 2001 season, he followed the team's rise to greatness with a seventh-game World Series win. When it came time to decide on a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation^® of Central and Southern Arizona, Tyler chose to meet the ballplayer whom he had cheered for on many game nights – Luis Gonzalez.

Tyler's wish experience began when a white stretch limo arrived at his school to pick him up. With his classmates gathered on the curb and chanting, "Tyler! Tyler!," he got in, waved from the sunroof, and set out for downtown Phoenix. Before meeting his Diamondbacks hero that evening, Tyler's family checked into the Hyatt Regency Hotel and dined at Friday's Front Row Sports Grill – a restaurant perched atop the left-field area of Bank One Ballpark. Afterwards, Tyler headed over to the team store – located in the stadium – and picked up a few necessities, including a purple batting helmet (for autographs) and a bobble-head doll.

Next, Tyler's wish came true. He walked onto the playing field during team batting practice. Gonzalez met with Tyler near the batting cage and later took some swings with Tyler's permission – an experience the boy called "very amazing." As Tyler watched, "Gonzo" prepared for that evening's game against the visiting Colorado Rockies. The slugger even rubbed his number-one fan's lucky shirt. Later, Tyler got signatures from the Diamondbacks for his new helmet and had pictures taken with them.

Before the start of the game, the young baseball fan was announced as the honorary batboy. Once the game started, Tyler's family and friends enjoyed the action from the swimming pool in the right-field seats. To top off Tyler's wish experience, Gonzalez hit a home run during the first inning (which some observers attributed to Tyler wearing his lucky shirt).
