This wish story makes me feel:

A very well-rounded young man, Vernon loves playing a variety of sports and enjoys reading mysteries. Vernon's wish was simple — he wanted to cruise to the Caribbean where it would be "warm and tropical." Vernon had only one stipulation: he wanted to depart from Florida so that he could fly in an airplane for the first time.

Vernon (far right) with his mother, father and brother T.J.

Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Eastern Virginia, coupled with the generosity of Royal Caribbean International, Vernon, his parents, and his 6-year-old brother T.J. enjoyed a cruise that exceeded even their most optimistic expectations.

An inspiring model of patience, Vernon waited more than a year for his wish to come to fruition — his illness prevented him from traveling sooner.

Royal Caribbean International graciously donated a Grand Ocean View Suite onboard Enchantment of the Seas that held Vernon and his family spellbound. They were awestruck at the sheer size and luxury of their suite. Ten of Vernon's new shipboard friends were convinced that Vernon's father was a professional football player to merit such first-class accommodations.

Vernon especially enjoyed the intricate details onboard the ship — especially spending time on the balcony and ordering chocolate-covered strawberries from room service. Their cabin attendant was especially attentive and gracious, making the experience extra special.

To chronicle Vernon's wish briefly, the cruise was 100 percent fun. He stayed up late and had fun with his new friends. He enjoyed the complimentary tickets to the on-shore activities, provided by the excursion manager. He basked in the warm and tropical climate that he had looked forward to for so long. There were no worries, no responsibilities, and no preoccupations.

One of Vernon's greatest dreams came true when he was allowed to participate in an up close and personal dolphin experience. The dolphins quickly took to Vernon, and he was equally fond of them.

According to Mrs. Gordon, the entire cruise was "a dream come true" and a trip that they will never forget. Vernon concurred that his wish was definitely worth the year-long wait.
