This wish story makes me feel:

Six-year-old Evan loves recess and basketball … but most of all, he loves to play pirate games. Dreaming up stories about sailing the high seas, Evan won’t let his wheelchair stand between him and a true pirate adventure.

When Evan imagined having his own wheelchair-accessible pirate ship, the Make-A-Wish® team got to work designing and building a backyard play ship complete with an authentic captain’s wheel, slide and rock wall. Evan was as excited to watch his ship being built as he was to board it for its maiden voyage.

With his siblings as his trusted shipmates, Evan now spends hours in his pirate ship, navigating the stormy sea and exploring deserted islands. Now he knows he can go anywhere in his wheelchair!

And now that he’s captain of his own ship, Evan’s working hard to study pirate parlance. His favorite phrase so far? “Land ahoy!”
