Make-A-Wish Foundation® Enhances Web Site to Match Donors & Volunteers with Opportunities

Disney-sponsored project boosts Destination JoySM presented by LAY’S® campaign

PHOENIX (May 15, 2007) – The Make-A-Wish Foundation has debuted an enhanced “Ways to Help” section of its Web site, www.wish.org, that is already enabling thousands of potential Make-A-Wish® volunteers and donors find opportunities that match their charitable interests.

Funded by The Walt Disney Company, a longtime Make-A-Wish supporter, and created by interactive marketing agency Digital Pulp, the sophisticated online database enables people to discover the skills, items and time commitments needed by the 69 Make-A-Wish chapters nationwide. In its first month of service, the “Ways to Help” database has attracted more than 2,850 potential volunteers, plus donations of items such as sports and concert tickets, new computers and the latest video game consoles to help wish-granting efforts.

“We are extremely excited about the launch of the ‘Ways to Help’ volunteer and donor database, and we’re especially grateful to Disney for funding this technology,” said David Williams, Make-A-Wish Foundation of America president and chief executive officer. “The Foundation’s ability to communicate specific wish-granting resource needs and volunteer opportunities is crucial if we are to grant the wishes of the estimated 100,000 children who will be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition over the next four years.”

Using the improved tools, Make-A-Wish chapters can post their volunteer and donor needs, helping them connect to people with the skills and items they need, such as office help, language interpreters, photographers, construction workers, artists and more. It also allows chapters to post requests for items they need to fulfill wishes. The site helps donors by making it easier to contribute items such as frequent flier miles, hotel loyalty points, new computers and personal electronics and travel packages for wish-granting purposes.

“Disney is delighted to provide the funding for the improved ‘Ways to Help’ section so that people can easily find ways to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions,” said Jeff Hoffman, vice president, Disney Worldwide Outreach. “The Make-A-Wish Foundation and Disney share a similar goal – to make wishes come true – and this is another essential tool the Foundation is using to achieve its mission.”

In addition to the database features, the revamped section includes light-hearted graphics highlighting the wish-granting Genie from Disney’s Aladdin.

The launch of the “Ways to Help” section coincides with Destination Joy presented by LAY’S, the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s campaign to inspire and empower Americans to share their much-needed time, talents and resources to grant the wishes of the 100,000 children who will be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition over the next four years. Through Destination Joy, the Foundation will help individuals and organizations recognize we all have the power to grant wishes and in turn, increase its wish-granting resources nationwide.
