The Make-A-Wish Foundation® congratulates the U.S. four-man bobsled team for winning the gold medal Saturday at the Winter Olympic Games in Whistler, British Columbia!
The “Night Train” team of driver Steven Holcomb (Park City, Utah) and crew members Justin Olsen (San Antonio, Texas), Steve Mesler (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Curt Tomasevicz (Shelby, Neb.) claimed the United States’ first gold medal in the event in 62 years.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation thanks the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation athletes, coaches and staff for their support. The USBSF placed the logos of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and six other charities on sleds during the 2009-10 World Cup season to express their gratitude to the organizations. The athletes, coaches and staff members selected charities that have had special meaning in their lives.
Tomasevicz chose the Make-A-Wish Foundation after seeing the impact that a wish has on a child’s life. He participated in granting a wish while playing football for the University of Nebraska from 2000-03.
“I've seen the joy and happiness that the Make-A-Wish Foundation can bring to a family in times of great despair,” Tomasevicz said. “When a child is facing a life-threatening illness, a moment of relief experienced through a vacation, meeting with a hero or receiving a present can provide a lifelong smile. It gives a child and their family a chance to live out an otherwise improbable dream.”
