This wish story makes me feel:

Like many American kids, 12-year-old Mickey has a passion for malls. When wish granters with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Tri-Counties told Mickey he qualified for a wish, he chose to celebrate his birthday by conquering the nation's largest retail complex – the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Mickey had his work cut out for him. The Mall of America advertises having more than 520 stores with 4.3 miles of storefront footage. To get Mickey and his family there, Delta Air Lines provided complimentary tickets to the California family. While flying, Delta took its generosity one step further and showered family members with courtesy coupons for beverages and movies.

Once in Minnesota, Mickey was all energy and he needed it. The Mall of America complex is 4.2 million square feet. Thirty-two Boeing 747s can fit inside, but could the mall handle a shopping spree with Mickey? As a member of the Special Guest Star Program, Mickey had access to discounts and VIP treatment. He celebrated his 12th birthday with a dinner at Planet Hollywood. He also visited Camp Snoopy – an indoor "Peanuts"-themed amusement park – and Underwater Adventures – the state's largest aquarium. Of course, Mickey turned shopping into an endurance sport with countless purchases.

Mickey also used his shopping legs for rock climbing at the mall. With the same ambition that fueled his trip, Mickey worked to scale the indoor rock wall. He even chose to challenge the wall labeled "Most Difficult." When his shopping trip ended, Mickey had enough memories and merchandise to last a long time.

Inspired Thoughts

  • That is so cool. I have always wanted to go there. I am so happy you got to live your wish. It's so cool that you took the most challenging rock wall there. You must have been very tired after your visit in Minnesota. This is a great story. Merry Christmas Mickey! Happy Late Birthday!
