The city of Boise was in the clutches of a super villain. The police and even Mayor David Beiter were in despair. They needed help, and local superhero Star was the only person up to the task.

Star is just 6 years old and not even close to standing 5 feet tall. But the city turned to her to handle Black, the evildoer who stole the golden star from the state seal at the Idaho Historical Museum.

Apprehending Black with help from her team of superheroes was part of an incredible two-day experience for Star, who is also known as Aubrey when she’s not wearing her superhero outfit. The first-grader wished to be a superhero; according to Marcia Karakas, executive director of the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Idaho, Aubrey wanted to be a superhero so she could cure “all the kids in the world” diagnosed with cancer and take their pain away. Doctors began treating her for an inoperable brain tumor when she was 6 months old.

Aubrey’s first day was packed with incredible adventures: A helicopter raced her to the crime scene at the museum, where she sifted through clues that would lead her to the missing icon – and her arch nemesis. Along the way, she had to foil Black’s attempts to thwart her effort. She rescued Boise citizens from a smoke-filled building and exonerated a family of ferrets framed for weaseling the star from the museum; she ordered police to release them after a morning of hard interrogation.

At noon, Star had her final showdown with Black. She directed a team of fellow superheroes –all clad in costumes she designed – to capture the elusive bandit. Her comrades Lion Lady, Frog Lady, Dog Man, House Lifter, Sky Girl, Martian Manhunter and Tree Girl worked together to bring Black to justice. Tree Girl flung her invisible sap through the air to slow him down, allowing the rest of the superheroes to tie him to a replica of the Liberty Bell outside the Idaho Statehouse.

Mayor Beiter then swore her in as an honorary Boise police officer and proclaimed June 16, the day of the wish, as Make-A-Wish® Day and Star Day. Police Chief Mike Masterson also presented Aubrey with a police uniform tailor-made for her.

Back at home, Aubrey received a call from a superhero legend: Adam West, the original Batman, who is also her favorite superhero. West congratulated her on collaring Boise’s nefarious villain. The next day, Aubrey was again playing the part of her Star alter-ego during a Make-A-Wish picnic.

Boise-based production company Area 02 filmed the adventure and hosted a premiere for the feature, titled The Adventure of Star: Episode I, at the Flicks Theater on Oct. 22.
