Fifteen-year-old Geysel wondered aloud if volunteers from the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southern Florida could really grant her wish. She wanted a quinceañera and asked Andrea, the wish granter, "Is this possible?"
A quinceañera is a 15th birthday party that marks a girl’s passage into adulthood. It also takes months of planning and decisions. Volunteers assured Geysel the wish could be granted and set about making the wish a reality. Along the way, Geysel had plenty of input. She chose almost every detail of her party, including the decorations, the type of cake, the style of dresses, the menu, and her own hairstyle.
When the big day came, Geysel was escorted with her court of 16 members via limousine to the ballroom. She ceremoniously changed out of her "little girl slippers" and into high heels and joined her court for the traditional dance. After dancing in the ways of the past, the group high-stepped into the present with a hip-hop dance that was choreographed by Geysel herself.
When the festivities ended, Geysel had symbolically made her entrance into womanhood and the Make-A-Wish Foundation had once again shown that dreams do come true.
