When asked how long she has been dancing, Sonia laughs and says, “Since I was a little child!” Sonia’s recent wish for DJ equipment will allow her to create the music she dances to for her family, friends and neighbors. Sonia explains that her friends share her love of dancing, and she could not wait to have her own DJ equipment to play music for them at birthday parties and other celebrations.
Sonia, who is battling a life-threatening medical condition, performed as a DJ for her family and friends, as well as volunteers from the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Greater Los Angeles, at a local GM dealer to celebrate her wish. Sonia and her family were escorted to and from the party “Cadillac style,” courtesy of Lou Ehlers Cadillac. At the party, Sonia made her DJ debut and was joined by local DJ Ben Romero of radio station Hot 92.3, who spun and broadcast with her. In addition to her equipment, Sonia received an equipment case, a record store gift certificate and a microphone.
“Sonia looked like she was having a great time being a DJ!” said Chris Slaughter, president of Lou Ehlers Cadillac. “The entire dealership was proud to celebrate her DJ debut, and we all feel privileged to have had the opportunity to adopt this great wish as part of the UAW-GM Make A Difference Day campaign.”
Sonia lists Hip-Hop and R&B as her favorite styles of music, but she also listens and dances to a variety of Spanish music, such as meringues. Sonia emphasizes that she loves all types of musical styles and will be playing a variety of music on her new equipment. “I just want to be a cool DJ,” she said.
