With an idol like legendary rocker Ozzy Osbourne, 9-year-old Gavin's wish wasn't that surprising. Sure, it was definitely creative, but people who know Gavin could see that the third grader was destined for big things. When volunteers from the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central and Southern Arizona asked Gavin what his wish was, the up-and-coming celebrity asked to be a rock star. Wish granters immediately turned their attention to getting Gavin his "big break."
Gavin's wish began as his white stretch limo pulled up to Alice Cooper'stown restaurant in Phoenix. Arriving a fashionable 15 minutes late, he was greeted with popping flashbulbs, screaming girls, and people waving hand-made signs that had messages such as "Gavin Rocks." The 9-year-old was appropriately dressed in a white silk suit with plenty of flowing tassels, a cape, tinted sunglasses, and knee-high black boots as he mingled with his fans.
At the restaurant – owned by Gavin's colleague Alice Cooper – the food was on the house, thanks to the veteran rocker. Unfortunately, though, Cooper was out of town. Heavy-metal band Razer played throughout the night for 125 of Gavin's friends, family, and Make-A-Wish® volunteers. While the energetic beats filled the room, Gavin weaved through the crowd to sign autographs. As the star, he demanded that his favorite oatmeal walnut raisin cookies be backstage. He was even allowed to set his own bedtime.
With Gavin's "rock stock" on the rise, there's no telling where his entertainment career will take him. Lucky for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, wish granters can say, "We knew Gavin when…"
