Colin, 4
"I wish to go whale watching" |
Four-year-old Colin knows as much about marine biologists as most boys know about their baseball heroes. Although he isn't even in kindergarten yet, Colin has an encyclopedia's worth of knowledge about all things under the sea. At 15 months old, Colin was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia—the most common childhood cancer. While it is highly curable, ALL is treated with chemotherapy. Colin spent many days in the hospital during his treatment. In fact, it was during those days where he became fascinated with killer whales, looking at pictures from his hospital bed. He would talk to his mom, Kellie, about whale sharks and sea life. At first, she thought he was just talking about creatures that he had imagined. But it wasn't long before she realized that he was actually talking about real things. "When he tells me something about sea life now, I believe him," she said. It's that love of the ocean that influenced Colin's wish to go whale watching. Wishes aren't just about one day or week; they're about creating lifetime memories. That's the joy of a wish. Colin is thinking of where his life will take him next and he's full of hope. A wish is so much more than a vacation—it's an affirmation of life! |
